High School by David Rothwell This Summer I will spend a lot of time hanging out with friends. So, I will be a freshman next year, but at a school that isn't part of my schools system. This means that the kids I will be hanging out with are the people I'll be friends with for the next 4 years. The main thing is, though, depending on how I like these kids will decide how my high school experience will be. No matter the school, I believe the things that make your time there either good or bad is how much you like the kids. People might say they like a certain activity, but they really just like the kids who take part in it. So in a way I would say I'm looking forward to it, but in reality I am just nervous. This Summer will really decide if high school is one of the best parts of my life, or the worst. *
Earth Day by Victot Sanda The phrase “Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it.” Is commonly used to describe why learning and understanding history is valuable to the human race. The most common period of usage for guillotines was the French Revolution during which the weapons were used to execute tyrannical monarchs and corrupt politicians. Many modern people have forgotten about this historical event. If guillotines were brought back into common use, people would be reminded of the monarchs’ cruelty during the French Revolution and how the ordinary French people suffered and not be “destined to repeat it”. Modern people would be more eager to take down oppressive governments and politicians would be kept in check by the threat of their countries’ citizens revolting and executing by potentially using guillotines, like the revolutionary French peasantry of 1789. *

The Most Interesting Thing I’ve Ever Done by Sophia Kantsevoy The most interesting thing I’ve ever done was probably to attend a MMUN – Montessori Model United Nations. Meeting with people from different states and countries to discuss issues you’ve been reading and writing about on your own for months. *
Rescue Dog by Graham I would like to adopt some rescue dogs to be with. My neighbor bought an old, blind, three-legged rescue who was trained on an Amish cow farm. I thought it was an incredible act of kindness because the dog was going to die soon; but he just wanted the dog to be able to live the rest of his life in happiness. *
Water by Liam L. Water is a large problem, not only in America but the whole world. Only about 2% of the world’s water is good to drink, and with largely populated areas it can be hard to get water. I have read from many different sources, from books to articles online about people who are having trouble with this and how to solve it. The most difficult problem is the expenses and the time. Filtering water takes a lot of effort and time. There are also people who are water-locked and who have to trade with other countries because that is the fastest way to get water. There are many organizations around the world trying to find water sources. There are some people who have to walk for hours just to get water. And in places where there is water, some people can’t afford it. There is no definite solution for this problem because every place is unique. It would be best for people to make companies that try to find water and make water wells. Also, making donations can be good for the funds to do this, helping Americans and others around the world. There is a book called “A Long Walk to Water” about people trying to solve this problem. It is about a true story. If everyone tries to help just a little, it will add up and make the world a little better and easier to live in. *

Water by Soren L. What are the two things humans need to survive? Food and water. If people got only one, or even none of these, they would not be able to survive. There are millions of people in the world who can’t afford water. They don’t make enough money from their jobs to create a sustainable living environment. On average, people could only live 4-6 days without water. This means that if people weren’t able to get this, they would die within a week. These millions of people would be searching frantically for something to drink. They also wouldn’t have any running water making them not able to take a shower, wash their hands, or drink water. What I would do to fix this problem is to change the cost of water. I always think that equity is better than equality. For the people who are able to pay for water, they would continue to pay the same amount. For the people who can’t afford water, I would charge the cost of water to fit their salary. Otherwise people would die who wouldn’t have to die. If we change the costs water, we would be able to save millions of lives.
